Product Development on a Shoestring (Product Management Experience Series)

Fielding profitable products in the setting of too little time, money, staff and executive commitment

Are you in the information and software industry or wish you were? Then learn from our speaker's experience in:

• Scoring tricks for selecting and prioritizing potential products (how to quickly decide what to work on when every department has their own “must have” project, product, or enhancement list?)
• Minimum requirements for transitioning from product development to execution
• How much analysis is enough? Alternatives to extensive (and expensive) market research
• Product R&D through pilot rollout (with case studies)

Presenter

Stephen Smith, Senior VP of Product Management and Marketing, Medsite

Steve Smith is Editor-in-Chief of Medsite, a leading provider of online marketing and education products. His role encompasses product design, client and customer satisfaction, and sales and marketing effectiveness. After joining the company in late 2003, he spent 2004 redesigning, restaffing, and relaunching Medsite’s Continuing Medical Education product line. The result was a 200% increase in sales, a 300% increase in client, and improvements in margins and development cycles. The new product was awarded Frost & Sullivan’s “Product Innovation of the Year Award.” Steve is now focusing on achieving similar improvements for the company’s other product lines.

Prior to Medsite, Steve co-founded and created Medscape, WebMD’s service for health professionals and the world’s most-referenced professional medical resource.

He has served as a product and sales consultant to the medical publishing, education, and communications industries.

Steve has a bachelor in medical science from the University of Oklahoma and is pursuing a masters in distance education from the University of Maryland. He has been published in Information Today, Pharmaceutical Executive, and other industry and professional publications.
