Product Portfolio Management

An evening about applying basic Investment Banking methodologies to the product development process to optimize product development strategy.

Every company struggles with resource allocation in product development, for existing products, ongoing development projects, and potential new products. If done correctly, the process is rigorously integrated with corporate strategy and growth goals.

In today’s highly volatile technology environment, industries, firms are under intense pressure to quickly bring often technical products to market, requiring decisions to allocate capital to R&D and marketing, for human resources, prototyping, testing and scale-up for commercial distribution.

The presentation focused on helping managers understand how to approach these issues, using standard investment banking principles, outlining key strategic issues that need to be considered when assessing the relative merits of: Organic growth versus acquisition; Merger versus continued internal product development; Accelerating product development by seeking external capital. A distinguished panel of local product portfolio managers will round out the discussion with their experiences.
